Topping & Company booksellers of Edinburgh was sent to test me, of that much I’m sure.

Drawing a huge curved building, in perspective, on a slope (in a stiff breeze) was, to put it mildly (I’m from Glasgow, so ‘mildly’ is not my specialty), a bit of a challenge. but i persevered! and in doing so I really got to understand the hierarchies of this remarkable building.

The frontage has to deal with tricky level changes, so the steps pour down to the pavement, and The key elevation steps back every time it climbs a storey to increase the sense of perspective and scale.
