For some reason, all of the bookshops I’d sketched up until we reached Leeds gargantuan Waterstones had been north-facing, and by some cruel quirk of fate the hour and the day we found ourselves outside Leeds gargantuan Waterstones was by far the hottest on our trip. And take it from me, if you ever find yourself sketching in 38deg direct sunlight, with cars and trucks and builders and traffic hurtling about, you’re going to need a good long while, and somewhere tranquil and relaxing, to cool off! (The carriage of a busy train, for instance)

in all seriousness, there is something about taking on these giants in my tiny sketchbook that i really love. And just like Argyle street waterstones in Glasgow, as soon as I began to loosely drag the colour across this drawing the building came to life in ways I never expected.
